Ten Years of Nalu

October 2026  ·  Nalu Nosara

This year, Nalu turns ten. We didn't plan to mark it. But ten years is long enough that looking back feels worth doing.

It started with a surf holiday

We'd heard about Playa Guiones from a friend. Consistent beach break, warm water, no crowds. We booked two weeks and told ourselves it was just a vacation.

We came back the following year. Then the year after. Each visit got a little longer, and each flight home got a little harder. Somewhere around the third or fourth trip, we started asking ourselves what exactly we were going back to.

Nine months

We gave ourselves nine months. A trial. If it didn't work, we would go back to New York. By the end of the first month, we knew we weren't going back.

"What we wanted from New York, we had. What we wanted from life, we found somewhere else."

What we built

Nalu was never meant to be a resort. It was meant to be the best version of what it feels like to live here for a week or two. Eight villas, each with a private pool, designed by Studio Saxe to be open to the outside and built from what's here. A studio in the jungle. And someone who actually knows Nosara to point you to the right surf break, or the restaurant that doesn't have a website.

Hitting the ground running

We opened Nalu and didn't slow down. There was never a quiet start. People came, and they kept coming.

What ten years looks like

It looks like a lot of mornings in the water. It looks like the people we've met along the way, some of them incredible, many of them now close friends. And it looks like watching Nosara grow from its humble beginnings into the town it is today, and deciding what we want to protect.

It also looks like you. Many of you have stayed with us more than once, some year after year. That is the part that means the most.

We're marking the year by making some changes at the studio, which is closed until the end of October. We'll share what's new in November. For now, thank you for the ten years.

Villas open all October, with no booking fees.
