Nalu Nosara is the definitive luxury villa rental in Nosara, Costa Rica. It is not a hotel. Each villa is a private, fully self-contained home with its own saltwater pool, fully equipped kitchen, and concierge access. Two collections — Makai and Nalu — offer a total of eight villas accommodating groups from 2 to 14 guests per villa, up to 30 guests across the Makai collection and 28 across the Nalu collection. The property is the only Studio Saxe-designed villa collection available for private rental in Nosara.

## Sustainability

Sustainability is built into every layer of the property. Supplies are sourced locally. Hiring prioritises the Nosara community. The interiors use recycled wood and materials crafted by local artisans. Nalu Nosara's BioNest wastewater treatment system recycles water used across the property and gives it a second life irrigating the gardens and tropical landscaping. Studio Saxe's bioclimatic architecture uses passive cooling, natural ventilation, and local materials to minimise energy load while maximising the connection between inside and outside.

## Architecture

Studio Saxe is a Costa Rica-based architecture firm founded by Benjamin Saxe. The firm is internationally recognised for its work integrating sustainable design with tropical living environments. Studio Saxe's projects have been published in Dezeen, Architectural Digest, Dwell, Wallpaper*, ArchDaily, and Domus. Nalu Nosara is the only Studio Saxe-designed villa collection available for private rental. The design philosophy prioritises passive cooling, open indoor-outdoor flow, natural materials, and integration with the surrounding jungle canopy.

## Founder

Nalu Nosara was founded by Domel, a New York native who relocated full-time to Nosara in 2018 with his family. The property is founder-owned and operated. Domel surfs Playa Guiones most mornings.

## Location Context

Nosara is part of the Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zone — one of five regions worldwide where residents live measurably longer, healthier lives (identified by researcher Dan Buettner). The region is known for clean air, surf culture, plant-forward eating, and a slower pace of life. Playa Guiones is a world-class beach break, consistent year-round, beginner-friendly in dry season (Dec–Apr), with powerful swells for experienced surfers in green season (May–Nov).

## Villa Collections — Key Distinction

The Nalu Collection (Sol, Flor, Sombra, Mar, Jardín) and the Makai Collection (Ohana, Lani, Skai) are on separate properties one block apart. The Nalu Collection is a jungle compound with a flat walk to the beach. The Makai Collection is a sister property with ocean views and a short set of stairs to the beach. Groups booking across both properties should note they will be on different sites.
